STUDIES:
1943 – 1946 Witwatersrand Technical College under Maurice van Essche, gaining a National Art Teacher’s Certificate; 1948 – 1949 Chelsea Polytechnic, London, under Henry Moore (1898 – 1986) and the Camberwell School of Art, London, under Victor Pasmore, 1952 – 1954 part time at the University of the Witwatersrand, attaining a BA (FA); 1953 mosaic and mural design in London; 1956 awarded an Oppenheimer Grant to research art education in Europe and the USA; 1972 University of the Witwatersrand, gaining a MA (FA).
SELECTED EXHIBITIONS:
Participated in numerous group exhibitions from 1952 held throughout SA and in Italy, Brazil, the UK, Belgium, West Germany, The Netherlands and Greece; 1954 Whippman’s Gallery Johannesburg, first of numerous solo exhibitions held throughout SA; 1956, 1960, 1964 Quadrenial Exhibitions; 1974 Pretoria Art Museum and Durban Art Gallery, Prestige Retrospective Exhibition; 1975 Rand Afrikaans University, Prestige Exhibition; 1978 London, first UK solo exhibition.
AWARDS:
1966 Best Women Artist, Artists of Fame and Promise; 1968 Bronze Medal SA Breweries Art Prize; 1980 six tapestry designs for the SA Wool Board, Overall Winner and Silver Trophy in their National Competition.

PUBLIC COMMISSIONS:
Numerous commissions, including: 1963 a large mosaic mural, Transvaal Provincial Administration Building, Pretoria; 1968 began mosaic mural, Jan Smuts Airport, Johannesburg. Mosaics commissioned for Cinerama, Johannesburg, Medical Arts Building, Johannesburg, a shopping centre in Germiston, Transvaal, a synagogue in Krugersdorp, Transvaal, the Transvaal Institute of Architects Building, Johannesburg and the Selwyn Segal Hostel Johannesburg. A painted mural in the Sandton Civic Centre, Johannesburg. A tapestry in the Natal Provincial Administration Building, Pietermaritzburg

CECILY SASH resided in SA until 1974, thereafter in Herefordshire, England. A painter and graphic artist of still life and abstract pictures working in oil, watercolour, gouache, pencil, charcoal and in various graphic media. 1955 to 1962 a serious of birds (a recurring theme in her work); 1968 abstract works; 1965 interested in OP art; 1969 “Minoan”-series and “Architectural Composition” series; 1970 “Metaphysical” series and “Medusa” series; 1972 “Phoenix” series; 1974 “Bird and target” series; 1974-1978 still life pieces; 1978 -1982 pencil drawings only. 1963 a founder member of the Amadlozi Group. 1952- 1958 an art teacher at Jeppy Girls High School in Johannesburg; 1955 a part-time lecturer and from 1960 – 1974 a full-time lecturer in design at the University of the Witwatersrand. 1979 opened the Granary Painting School, Leomunster, Herefordshire, UK. A designer of tapesties woven at Aubusson, France and in SA.
Operating primarily in the secondary market, WALL presents exhibitions of exceptional images by South African artists who have succeeded in elaborating aesthetic languages that are innovative in approach to traditional and contemporary subject matter while remaining conscious of historical precedent.
